DHT and estren increase the androgen phenotype score in submandibular glands independently of estrogen receptors. Ovariectomized 11-months-old female WT and DERKO mice were given daily s.c. injections of E2 (0.7 μg/day), DHT (120 μg/day) or estren (75 μg/day) during four weeks. Control mice received olive oil. E2 treatment did not dramatically affect the androgen phenotype of SMG, in either WT or DERKO mice. THE SMG score for androgen phenotype was high for both DHT- and estren-treated mice, of both WT and DERKO genotype, when compared to control mice.
