  1. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to determine the odds ratio (OR) and 95% Confidence Interval (CI), controlling for age, gender, G6PD deficiency, sickle-cell trait status and presence of bacterial infections [10, 13, 3638]. The homozygous wild-type genotypes were used as reference group for the regression analyses.
