Increased BCG-induced CCL2 secretion in pulmonary tuberculosis. Whole blood cells were stimulated with M. bovis BCG as described in Fig. 2 and chemo/cytokine secretion measured at 18 h post-stimulation. Data for individual subjects; controls 'EC' (N = 12), pulmonary 'Pul-TB' (N = 10) and extra pulmonary 'EPul-TB' (N = 8) tuberculosis is illustrated. The median value is indicated by a horizontal line. Baseline levels of cytokines have been subtracted in each case 'Δ '. A. CCL2, B. CXCL8 and C. TNFα. Pair-wise differences were calculated using the Mann-Whitney U test with P < 0.05, '*'.
