At the time of subject enrollment, blood samples were collected, and the peripheral blood basophils were stimulated with an inhalant allergen mix. CCR3+ cells with low side scatter were considered basophils, and the CD63+ basophils were termed “activated basophils”. b The median levels of CD63 expression by basophils after inhalant allergen stimulation were 60.0% (34.8–84.2%) and 29.2% (11.1–77.4%) in children diagnosed with asthma and those not diagnosed with asthma, respectively.
